Meet our Project Manager, Jibek

Get to know Jibek, a very responsible and reliable Project Manager. She is always ready to take on projects and manages it into successful applications. Appello is thrilled to have her as part of the team.

    1. What is your favourite project you’ve managed

My favourite project is Health Claim Australia, I love the idea releasing doctors from paperwork routine. We all know doctors should focus on patients, not manually filling in printed forms.

    1. How long have you been in the industry?

My career in project management started 4 years ago in a hardware company. Shortly thereafter I moved to the largest software service company in the country. Starting as a project assistant and ended up managing few projects simultaneously. During this period I’ve managed various types of applications and team sizes. My project management background allows me to mentor PM groups in a IT academy and share real cases I’ve experienced.

    1. Highlight your key leadership principles?

An Agile mindset is important to me and I use this methodology in the projects I lead. As a project leader, I always try to be empathetic to my team and stakeholders. This helps take into account both sides and come up with the best solution. Leading the team is not only about delivering on time within the budget, but also to make sure people don’t over-stress and enjoy their tasks. My favourite quote is ‘Don’t panic, I’m a Project Manager’, it describes our job very clearly. We listen to both business needs and development teams to bring requirements into a working application.

    1. Which tech are you most excited about?

I’d love to try ‘gamedev’ industry, because it’s different from regular ‘business needs’ software. In game development, PM/ BA/ PO are working on delivering ‘fun’ to people. Of course it has way bigger risk of failure, but the project complexity is very exciting. This makes game development complicated in a management and analytics perspective. Although we all know people won’t ever stop playing, and the variety of games cover gamers’ expectations to be entertained. Also, gaming involves AI tech which is another rapidly-growing technology.

    1. In your opinion, what makes a successful app?

The correct understanding of a business’ needs leads to correct business requirements and clear tasks for dev team. MVP version covers most of must-have features. Shorter MVP version, easier to test on real users and to create a next version of an app. Listening to end users’ feedback is important to create an application that can help as well as automate their work routine.

  1. What do you think are the biggest challenges organisations are facing regarding developing new technology solutions?

I think the biggest challenge is related to the project management triple constraint: scope/ time/ budget. It is always hard to have all three in balance and deliver a high quality application. That is why we have project managers – to keep everything levelled. When we face new tech solutions, communication is very important. Miscommunication may lead to misunderstanding and as a result a huge gap in ‘Expectation vs Reality’.
